Women in Leadership, Davis (WiLD)

Mission Statement

Embrace. Empower. Educate.

 

Women in Leadership, Davis (WiLD) supports women leaders, specifically African American women and other Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). WiLD uses a three-pronged approach to develop and mentor women of all ages: Embrace women poised to enter leadership roles through logistical and community support, Empower young women to pursue leadership roles through community activities and direct support as needed, and Educate our community and bring awareness to systemic barriers to success facing women of marginalized groups through community events.

Dzokerayi Minya

Co-founder & Director, WiLD

 

Dzokerayi Minya is co-founder of WiLD; a  non-profit Director at Tese Foundation, community organizer and co-owner of one of the few black owned business in the City- ZimCuisine. She is a past International House Davis Board member, Rotarian and Board member on the Davis Legacy Association. She is the current YCDiE chair as well as PAACD (Parents if African American Children) President 2020. Her educational background is in business management; sales and catering. 

Sarah Zimmerman

Founding Member, WiLD 

 

Sarah Zimmerman is the Deputy Chief of Staff at SEIU Local 1000, a union representing 95,000 state workers in California. Sarah has worked for 20 years in nonprofits and labor unions directing research, policy, politics and government affairs. She recently served as Chair of the Davis Civic Arts Commission. She studied political science at the University of Chicago and completed two masters’ degrees in economics and historical studies at the New School for Social Research. Sarah is from New Jersey.

Joey Garcia

Squad Member, WiLD

 

Joey Garcia is from Davis, CA and studied criminal justice and psychology at San Francisco State University.  She served her community assisting callers to the suicide hotline, which she has described as one of her most rewarding jobs. Joey and her husband homeschooled their three children for 13 years before enrolling the youngest two in DJUSD schools, while the eldest attended college. Joey currently enjoys working on social and racial justice campaigns in the Davis community.

Juliette Beck

Juliette Beck

Founding Member, WiLD 

Juliette Beck is a climate and racial justice organizer.  She parents with social justice, and coordinated the art from the children in our community in Yolo County for the August Women's March.  Her vision is to involve young children in social movements and give them a space to protest safely and to be heard.

Jeanie Hartranft

Co-founder & Treasurer, WiLD

 

Jeanie Hartranft is co-founder of WiLD, owner and operator of a small business in Davis, Finding Strengths, offering academic, personal and corporate coaching. She is Gallup trained as a Strengths coach, and holds a masters degree in Leadership. She is founder of the American and International Mentorship (A.I.M.) program and past director. Jeanie designs and facilitates retreats, workshops, seminars and simulations to enhance the awareness of social and racial justice, personal awareness and implicit bias.

Francesca Wright

Founding Member, WiLD 

 

Francesca Wright has been a social justice activist for over fifty years.  From training delegates returning from the war zones of Nicaragua, to mentoring a troop of Woodland girls, and collecting parental engagement strategies from throughout California for the California Dept. of Education, she challenges systems to have intention, to respect each person and to reflect on results. She currently helps  coordinate Yolo People Power, an informal network envisioning public safety and advocating for justice reforms.

Lasonja Porter

Squad Member, WiLD

Lasonja Porter is currently serving Davis, CA at Partnership Health Plan, a position she's held for 20 years. Lasonja has a BS in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento and holds an AS in business administration. She has four children, all of whom have graduated from Davis Senior High School. She currently runs a 501(c)3 organization in her tireless efforts to assist the homeless,

Cindy Pickett

Founding Member, WiLD 

 

Cindy Pickett is the past president of the Davis Joint Unified School District Board of Education. She is also a founding member of the Yolo Committee for Diverse and Inclusive Elections and a member of Parents of African-American Children - Davis.  Dr. Pickett works as the Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at DePaul University.

Kelsey Meadows-Lucas

Founding Member, WiLD 

Kelcey is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and the Senior Philanthropy Officer at Mercy For Animals, an international farmed animal protection non-profit. She has worked as a fundraiser for 17 years raising tens of millions of dollars for advocacy charities and state ballot initiatives. She received her B.S. in business, sociology and political science from Millikin University. She was a service-learning fellow in the Dominican Republic, an Americorps*VISTA for a universal health care campaign, fundraising chair of the Doylestown Dog Park Committee and a diversity trainer with the American Youth Foundation. .

Jenni Biggs

Squad Member, WiLD

 

Jenni Biggs is a longtime resident of Davis, who arrived in 1989 as a UCD Freshman and never left.  She and her high-school-sweetheart-now-husband have raised their 3 kids here in Davis, and love being a part of WiLD events. 

 

Jenni is the Founder of Do Good Shop, a 501c3 nonprofit that gives a hand up to victims of oppression through ethical artisan employment.

Tina Jones

Squad Member, WiLD

Tina Jones is a young entrepreneur and single mom to a 4year old Genius child. Despite her busy schedule, Tina takes time to help others in need. She has been working with homeless Refuge Support and advocacy since 2017, and has been a CNA since 2016. Tina currently works at West View Medical  while owning and operating a business as a hairstylist. Tina Is the owner of T&L Exotics Total Beauty Salon in Woodland, CA.
